FAQ

  • Why do you sometimes run out of dough?

This happens around the country more than many people realize. Our pizza dough does not get made and delivered by another company. We make our dough in-house. We make our dough once per day and it is allowed to ferment over a few days in order to develop flavor before we use it to make pizzas. We are ultimately limited by the amount of space (and time) we currently have to store the dough during its various stages of creation (fermentation, dough balls in boxes, etc.). As such, we will run out of dough during particularly busy days.

  • Do you take reservations?

    No.

  • Do you deliver?

    No.

  • Is Paulie Gee’s Hampden available for private events?

We are not booking for private events at this time (as of 4-26-2023)

  • Do you serve alcohol?

Yes. Cocktails, beer, wine, and sipping spirits.

  • Do you have vegan options?

We have a significant number of vegan pizzas available on our menu.

  • Do you serve gluten-free pizza?

    No.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
**We are not currently accepting cash and do not have change. There is no Federal or Maryland state law which requires us to accept cash.

  • Is your dough vegan?

Yes. Only flour, water, salt, and yeast are in our wood-fired dough. The same is true for our NY-Style dough, except it also has olive oil in it.

  • Can we bring a cake, ice cream or outside foods and/or drinks into the restaurant?

No outside food or drinks, including thermoses, water containers, etc. can be brought into the restaurant or onto the patio.

  • Where do the names of the pizzas come from?

Some are obvious, some tongue in cheek, but a few:

Outside Log Cabins. Named after a famous Hawaii surf break that breaks seldomly under only extreme weather conditions. It initially appeared on our menu to celebrate “Biggest Wednesday”, when Ken Bradshaw surfed what was at that time the largest wave ever surfed….at Outside Log Cabins in 1998.

Mo Cheeks. The pizza contains guanciale, which are pig jowls (cheeks). Named after former NBA Philadelphia 76ers basketball player Maurice Cheeks.

Stinger Bell. Honey is made by bees. The pie has hot honey on it to give a wee bit of a sting and one of the characters in the Baltimore based television series, The Wire….which is the greatest show in the history of TV by the way….was named Stringer Bell. Remove one letter and you’ve got a great pizza name that was meant to be.

Old School Cheese. An homage to how pizzas were made in the early 1900’s at some of America’s oldest pizzerias and the pizzerias inspired by them… Lombardi’s, Totonno’s of Coney Island, John’s Pizza, Luigi’s Pizza Alla Napoletana, Grimaldi’s, Johnny’s and more. This is why we put the mozzarella cheese down first and the tomato sauce on top of the cheese on our deck oven pies. Some call this “upside down” pizza, but since the earliest pizza pies in America were made this way, we argue it’s actually right side up!

Roni James Dio. The small, cup and char pepperoni used on this pizza are referred to as “Roni Cups” in the industry. Named by former Hampden team member Whitley “Pizza Daddy” Higuera in honor of Ronnie James Dio, lead singer of the heavy metal band Dio.

Hot Child In The City. A spicy pie named after the song by Nick Gilder

The Heat Is On. A spicy vegan pie named after the song by Glenn Frey

Dollop Parton. Hopefully you can figure this one out.

Greenpointer. It’s got arugula on it and is green. Greenpoint is the Brooklyn neighborhood where the original Paulie Gee’s opened.

Gee Train. The vegan version of the Greenpointer. You catch the G train to reach Greenpoint by subway.

Johnny Cashew. Named in honor of one of the greatest bad-asses in the history of music.

Daniela Spinachi. Named after a former Paulie Gee’s employee who came up with this classic pie.

In Ricotta Da Vegan. A riff on the Iron Butterfly song, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda

From Russia With Love. Our vodka pie. Named after a James Bond Movie and also because vodka is traditionally associated with Russia.

Beatrix Kiddo. Basic wood-fired cheese pizza. The first kid friendly pizza we made and named after Uma Thurman’s character in the movie Kill Bill.

Black Mamba. Basic wood-fired vegan cheese pizza. The vegan version of the Beatrix Kiddo. Black Mamba was the code name of Beatrix Kiddo in the movie Kill Bill.

Queen Of Television. Vegan version of our Betty White pie. Betty White was known as the Queen of Television.

Salad #1. A riff on the band Fugazi’s “Song #1”
